For the last two years a competition has been held to establish which Office Depot site recycles the largest percentage of their waste. This competition is designed to encourage and motivate associates within Office Depot and has become a coveted prize. The winning sites in 2007 were Belvedere and Bristol.
In 2007 our sites increased the amount of recycled waste by approximately 9% and also managed to reduce the overall amount of waste disposed of by about 40 tonnes. In 2007 we were able to recycle over 72% of our waste.
For 2008 the criteria will include the amount of carbon used, environmental audit performance in addition to percentage recycled.
These initiatives provide each site with a benchmark for site performance assisting improvements.
